Raw Metal, Day 4/5, Singapore

My sincerest apologies to anyone who reads this.

I didn't blog yesterday because of my little trip to the tourist island Sentosa...so here's a

SENTOSA MEGA SPECIAL (corny, I know)

First off, we got on the cable-car to get to the island.

My first port of Call was Fort Siloso

Which was built to protect the port of Singapore, which had become a vital link in the British Empire by 1880. It has heaps of tunnels you can go down...Here's Chris in the ammunition store.

They really love the fort, and it shows, to the point that they even like to recreate the smell of the fort when it was active.

They also have the surrender chambers, where they have a recreation of when the Brits first surrendered to the Japanese, and where the Japanese surrendered to the Brits two years later. I thought I should point out where they had a spelling error.

We then headed down to the beach, which was tame by Australian standards...but had some nice palm trees.

We then headed up from the beach to the Merlion, past some nice fountains

And This was supposed to be a picture of just me and the sky, but a giant half-lion, half-fish came rumbling past...

END SENTOSA SPECIAL

There, wasn't that fun!

We also went and saw the buddhist temple, where they have a tooth from Buddha, and his statue is solid 24 carat gold!

Another highlight of the day was the band, Chris and Me getting rickshaw rides to the gig. The thrill of five rickshaws driving down to the venue in convoy was hilarious, and I highly reccomend it as a form of gig transport for touring bands.

Here's Kosta in front.

And Gene behind.

And Chris and I, obviously enjoying ourselves.

Ah well, one last show to go, then its homeward bound for me!

Raw Metal, Day 3, Singapore

Hidey ho!

Today is our first show day, and people are pretty nervous....

...Ok....so they're not really...we're all just hot, sticky, and tired.

My daily ritual, like animals habit, is now solidified into the following:

Wake up at around 10.30...go to starbucks.....go back to the hotel..have a nanna nap...go to the gig....do gig...go to bar...come home...

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

That was a picture of the Starbucks we're hanging out in while we're over here...

And can you get a better mix position, backing out onto the harbour with the Merlion?

Ah well, I wonder how tonight show will go? Seeing as I always blog a day after the fact, I think it might go particularly well ;-)

Raw Metal, Day 2, Singapore

Day Number two!

My Laptop is running on about 2% battery power, so this post is mostly pictures!

We started off the day with a walk around Singapore, heading to the shopping Mecca of Orchard Street.

Here's a few shots of the lovely architecture!

Here's one of me with my fellow Churchie Oldboy, and top worl beatboxer, Tom Thumb

And we fly halfway around the world to find in the shops, Kangaroos and Koalas...obviously put there to make us feel more comfortable

We walked into a store that was quite like an Asian Granny May's, and it had some weird items, not the least of which was the USB eye massager, which looked quite like something else:

Unfortunately, All good things must come to an end, and we eventually head to work to do a dance show...Here's my extra-big mixing desk, with laptop and measuring equipment attached

And the guys that ACTUALLY do work (I just mix audio)....the Lovely Kylie and the Talented Richard (Stage Manager and Lighting Designer respectively)

More posts about my blogging location, and more about the show tomorrow.

even MORE humid love,

Raw Metal, Day 1, Singapore

Alrighty, the first day of our jaunt off to Singapore!

We got to the airport at around 10 in the morning, for a 2pm flight to Singapore, that got use in at about 8pm local time (so an 8 hour flight to get here).

The plane ride was full of misadventures, but we all eventually arrived safe and well in Singapore. What I noticed is that while I’ve been here before (around the age of 12, I believe), being a little older makes me appreciate new things, but also harks me back to my younger travelling years. When I was younger, there was a playground at Changi airport, which had a very distinctive dinosaur in it. As soon as I stepped off the plane, I was reminded of that very playground, just by the décor of Changi Airport. As soon as I stepped out of the hotel,I smelt a smell that again reminded me of my younger years, while still becoming fresh and new because I am now a little older and wiser to enjoy it.

Here’s a shot of homely old Brisbane Airport, and a shot of Changi Airport…aren’t they both really nice places to be?

After we’d checked in, we went out for dinner. As I’d eaten on the plane, I felt that a lighter meal was the place to be. After stopping in at the local 7/11 (Are we at home still?) I bought a bottle of water and a packet of crisps.

Wait….isn’t that Snoopy? It is, it’s Snoopy Chips, surely the most peanutty chips ever!

Tomorrow is our first (and only) day of rehersals. I’m a little worried as how the 80% humidity will affect the way things sound, but that will all be shown tomorrow!

Much Humid Love,

Jamie

4 June, Raw Metal Rehersals!

Two days till our Singapore Trip.

My job basically consists at this point of making sure all our props and other equipment are ready to head overseas.

Tomorrow I'll take some photos of our new friends in this seaward voyage of adventure...

...I'm starting to sound like Dave Rat....geezus...

2 june, Raw Metal, Gold Coast

Back on the gold coast!

This gig is a BMW Charity ball. It's at a really nice hotel called 'Royal Pines Resort'.

I was mixing on a KUDO system, which sounded REALLY nice. That combined with an M7CL (the touch-screen makes life so easy!) made this one of the best shows I've ever mixed.

My Big thanks to Con-Sol, who provided a fantastic system!

I also saw Bloss, who I haven't seen for ages.
