A week of corporate....plus a day of hell

Argh.

I'm writing this on my first day off since february began....

On Monday i was bumping in break-out rooms for new corporate mob I'm working for. They're great guys, and I hope I work with them a lot more!

On tuesday I was running a show (for the same company) in the Pavillion outside Jupiters casino.

and a photo of dinner (Hey, I liked the juxtaposition of Dinner and graphic EQ)

The nest night I was by the pool at the Hyatt at sanctuary cove, watching an accoustic act (oh, and mixing them)

The next night I mixed the tap guys at a huge event in the BCEC (I.e. two halls, about 1000 people...massive line arrays). I then trudged down the coast to listen to two hours of karaoke before bumping out a show.

then comes last night:

Let me preface this by saying since February 1st I've had one day off. The rest of the time I've been working my nuts off in Brisbane, the Gold Coast, and Sydney. tonight I was supposed to have been at the pub near my house, with a friend of mine watching the 'Miss Grand View' contest. My friend's sister is in the comp, and always introduces us to the girls.

So anyway...tuesday avo I receive a call from my mate saying he needs and audio guy to run a PA at this club. Seeing he's a mate, I shelve my personal plans of watching beautiful women in bikini's and say I'll be there.

Usually when I do gigs at this venue, it's a couple of radio mics and a backing track, or at worst, a couple of MC's and a funk band.

So I rock up to the venue at 4pm, and am told that the roof has collapsed in the room directly under where I'm working, so I can't load anything in until they clean up the mess. So I wait around until 5.30, when we get the all clear to go in.

I wheel all the roadcases into the room...and start setting up the monitors (the mains PA is already in the room)...and find that I have three microphone leads....total...

...The production manager is away at his house getting clothes...so I have to wait till 6.30pm to get microphone leads...by which time the opening act has arrived and set up their gear...

...It's an 'emo/indie kind of night'...the music was like 'My Chemical Romance' if they were double the speed and liked feedback on their guitars...and I'm mixing about two feet from one of the guitarists, from side-stage.

...so I check the openers, the headliner comes in and set up, and insist that their amps are cranked up full way, and it ends up sounding like shit, and uncomfortably loud...

..anyway, I finish checking them, and head to a friends place to hang out for the two hours until I get back to the room for a 10.30 call for an 11pm show.

...the airconditioning has died...the temperature in the bar area is 29.7 degrees...

...by the time the headliners were on, it was 36 degrees on stage. Two hours in that and I was sweating streams...

At which point I decided to put the mics in a box, and pimp off home.

So, in short:

- Am extremely exhausted
- Am Hungry
- Am missing beautiful girls and beers with friends
- The ceiling downstairs colapses
- The bands are so loud they give me tinitus
- I'm working in 36 degree heat.

Pretty much everything that can go wrong, did.

Post-Entech

After Entech finished, I showed my american colleague around my hometown (and the gold coast)

It's great fun. I've got a busy week of corporate shows coming up, though...

Entech!

I've just been working down at Entech. The speakers I'm a sales rep for had their first showing, and had immensely positive reviews.
